Home Sweet TLF

Deja Vu!

After all of our belongings were hauled away, we packed up the suitcases, the kids, and the dogs and headed over to TLF. For all those civilians, that stands for Temporary Lodging Facility. Leave it to the government to give a 30+ year old hotel such an official name.

We've been in these TLFs before. When we moved out of Nellis in '97, we stayed in this very building. I'm fairly certain the mattress hasn't been changed out since we last slept here. And the bathrooms are extra tiny, but they definitely have THE best water pressure. When it takes 10 minutes to rinse your hair, you appreciate the firehose-worthy blast of an old shower. Most of all, I'm not sleeping on an air mattress so here's to TLFs!

We stay here until the 4th. It's clean, allows pets, and they definitely do the job.

The Movers have arrived

For the 14th time in his military career, the moving company has been hard at work packing our household goods. We won't see our belongings until June 2017 at the earliest. Sorting and packing for a year of European and RV travel is no small task. We've purged more than ever before, and have quickly learned what is important to us. Cute shoes is one of them for some of the members of this family. For some reason they aren't so important to others...

We've made lists of our lists, checked them all off and have prepared as much as possible. But at this point, the kids can have cake for dinner, pack only swim trunks and a soccer ball and I don't think I'd care. We are ti-red and ready to get this show on the road. Just a few more days until Vegas is in our rearview mirror!

Empty cupboards, stacks of boxes, and In-n-Out bags on the island. Yep...it's moving day!

Buh-bye stuff! Hope I need you never (this year).

And so we begin!

Welcome to our blog!

My husband just retired from the Air Force after serving for 23 years. We decided to do something a little radical with our family of 5 and travel for the next year. We will begin by visiting family and friends as we drive to the east coast. There, we will take a military hop to Europe and visit 9+ countries. Upon our return, we will purchase an RV and spend the next 10 months driving around this great nation of ours.

Yes it's crazy. Yes we're serious. And yes we've seen the movie RV.

But life is an adventure and as this all began to come together for us, we knew that we had to grab on and run with it. I have ideas about what I'm going to love, and dislike and I may very well be wrong about some of it. I'm certain the people and experiences that are in our immediate future are going to be memorable, and maybe even life-changing. God is always at work in our lives and I can't wait to see how this all unfolds!
